Sasuke & Sakura: An Analysis
Chapter 12
Haku Fight
Despite the fact that Sasuke was getting sliced to ribbons and already had Naruto's and his own safety to worry about, Sasuke looked panicked and felt concerned for Sakura's welfare when he heard her scream during his fight with Haku. Not only that, but Sasuke irritably criticized Kakashi for letting Sakura be left in a situation where she would feel the need to scream. Sasuke is clearly annoyed with his sensei for performing so poorly as to allow any harm to come to Sakura.

When Sasuke later wakes up to find Sakura sobbing over his "death" and sees her fling herself upon him once he wakes up, Sasuke sees firsthand that someone cares deeply about him, enough to shed tears for him. Someone will mourn him and miss him if he dies.

Sasuke's response is what I term the "thoughtful ellipse", a bubble of thought Kishimoto employs frequently to show that the characters are having a significant emotional response to what is occurring around them. Sasuke's eyes are also shadowed instead of directly shown. For those who aren't familiar with anime, shadows obscuring eyes from sight is a sign of intense emotion.
